May i-Tree Online Workshop: May 21st, “i-Tree in the Tropics”

A Monthly Series from the i-Tree Development Team
Next Upcoming Workshop

When: Thursday, May 21, 2020

Please join us for the May 2020 i-Tree Training Workshop: i-Tree in the Tropics!

It might be a while before many of us get to visit our favorite southern latitudes, so in the mean time, join us on a journey to look at how some of our collaborators are using i-Tree to help communities and managers inform their tropical forestry initiatives and urban green space planning. We will hear an overview about three different projects in Puerto Rico, exploring ideas about how understanding forest health and tree canopy benefits can have a meaningful impact on community resilience, hurricane recovery, and how using these tools can strengthen connections that foster stewardship across the landscape.

On Thursday, May 21, 2020, 1:00 pm EDT, we will hear from Elvia J. Meléndez-Ackerman, Professor of Environmental Science at the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras; Sofia Olivero-Lora, a biologist and tropical forester with the US EPA; and Christopher Nytch, an ecologist and educator with the Friends of El Yunque (National Forest) Foundation. They’ll bring us their perspective on using i-Tree to achieve their project goals, and share with us a bit of what it’s like to do this kind of work in a tropical environment.

PRE-REGISTRATION is required for this session in order to provide the most streamlined user experience. To register, please visit https://may2020itreeonline.eventbrite.com

About i-Tree: i-Tree allows any community to conduct and analyze sample or compete street tree inventory data, and make estimates of the structure, function and value of these components of your urban forest. Baseline data can be used to effectively manage the resource, develop policy and set priorities. Looking at information collected on existing street trees, this software allows managers to evaluate current benefits, costs, and management needs.
