MyTree for Project Learning Tree (PLT)
Offering more than just beauty and shade, trees provide tangible benefits, such as removal of atmospheric carbon dioxide and pollution, storm water reduction, temperature modification, and more. By removing carbon dioxide, trees help mitigate climate change. The shade provided by urban tree canopies can also help minimize the urban heat island effect. In addition, trees intercept storm water, which can reduce flooding and improve water quality, and reduce air pollution, such as ozone, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and fine particulate matter.
Reduction of air pollution has proven benefits to human health – trees truly can enhance our lives! MyTree allows students to explore the individual benefits provided by the trees near their school or home. Have your students visit trees on your school campus, and let them tell us a little bit about one, or more trees growing there, and we’ll estimate the amount of carbon dioxide and pollution it removes from the air, as well as the amount of stormwater it can help mitigate.
It’s quick, easy… and fun!

PLT Informational Webinar Session
On, November 19, 2020 members of the i-Tree Development Team and the US Forest Service Conservation Education program presented a roundtable presentation i-Tree and the MyTree app, which can be used to map and calculate the benefits and economic values of trees in any area, including school grounds and campuses.
