Urban Forests – Effects – Greenhouse/Carbon
Greenhouse Effects and Carbon Cycling
UNRI scientists play an important role in the research initiatives of the Northern Global Change Research Program (NGCRP), which currently emphasizes scientific inquiry into the effects of multiple air pollutants and climate changes on forest ecosystems. As the program matures, the impacts of prospective changes on interactions between forest ecosystems and social and economic processes will be evaluated, as will policy options for mitigating or adapting to predicted changes.
Focus Topics include areas of Carbon Cycle and Ecosystem research, including the following items:
- The Potential of US Forest Soils to Sequester Carbon & Mitigate the Greenhouse Effect
- US and State Carbon Budget Estimates
- Baltimore LTER
- Delaware River Basin Collaborative Environmental Monitoring and Research Initiative (CEMRI)
Please visit the Northern Global Change Research Program (NGCRP) for more information on the scope of these resrach projects that are currently being undertaken by UNRI scientists and their cooperating partners.
